Speciality Underwriter

Speciality Underwriter role involves suitability assessment, setting terms and pricing risks for products across marine, engineering and renewal energy segments in line with RSAs appetite.  The successful candidate will underwrite both new and existing business to contribute to the delivery of operational plans. 

The role involves collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure our offerings and service deliver a best in class customer experience with our trading partners. The role would be based either in Dublin or Galway

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building, maintaining and developing relations on a portfolio of accounts to secure profitable renewals and generate new business in line with strategy & risk appetite
  • Reviewing new business cases and negotiating renewals, where appropriate, and delivering underwriting decisions by following agreed processes at the designated authority level and with the necessary senior direction and support, to secure profitable business within the agreed risk appetite in the Specialty Lines Team
  • Building, maintaining and developing relations on a portfolio of accounts to secure profitable renewals and generate new business in line with designated authority level
  • Identifying non-standard or complex risks and escalating to more qualified/experienced colleagues to ensure they are handled appropriately
  • Supporting more qualified colleagues in the handling of non-standard cases in line with established standards, procedures and guidance provided
  • Managing customer queries in an efficient, courteous and timely manner to deliver high standards of customer satisfaction
  • Contributing to the production of new policy wordings or reviews of existing policy wordings to ensure policy documentation is current and accurate

 

Attributes and Qualifications:

  • A driven and motivated team player with a hardworking, can-do attitude and a passion for delivering excellent customer service
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel to an intermediate level
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with a commitment to delivering quality results.
  • Experience of the insurance sector, this is highly desirable, although not essential as we believe good customer services skills, gained within retail or office environments are transferable
  • Commercial APA, CIP or similar
