Commercial Lines Portfolio Manager -Maternity Leave Cover (Open to internally applicants only)

This role will involve directing the strategic and tactical development and performance of the Commercial Lines FAST portfolio, in line with agreed business strategy and performance targets. You will be focused on developing and implementing strategies, monitoring and reporting business performance and managing stakeholder relationships.

You will use your leadership and relationship skills to effectively build and enhance the Portfolio products, to enable profitable business growth. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio’s financial performance to deliver strong results in line with or exceeding business plan
  • Leading the development and management of strategies for the portfolio of risks in order to achieve agreed business strategy and targets
  • Actively contributing to the development of segmented and local customer propositions to increase penetration of existing customers and/or expand the business mix
  • Reviewing non-standard case referrals and deliver underwriting decisions, following agreed processes at the designated authority level, in order to secure profitable business within the agreed risk appetite.
  • Planning, monitoring, and managing team/department business and performance in line with agreed performance targets, service standards, budgets and wider business and change objectives
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with other business areas and functions to maximise the effective operation of the team/department/unit and performance of the portfolio
  • Representing RSA externally, taking a leading role in influencing market expectations, direction, standards, and legislation in line with RSA’s best interests and commercial priorities and promoting RSA as a leading insurer
  • Liaising with Reinsurers and/or internal Reinsurance teams to achieve the desired levels of cover on appropriate commercial terms and/or exploit appropriate reinsurer capacity, data and expertise to maximise profitable portfolio growth
  • Working with the Commercial Portfolio Management team to ensure continued assessment of portfolio performance to develop insight driven portfolio strategy and improvement opportunities
  • Ensuring the long term development of the portfolio through product development based on portfolio performance, market intelligence, R & D insight, legal developments and emerging risks

 

Attributes and Qualifications:

  • Experience of working in a broad range of underwriting roles directly with customers and in the customer environment.
  • Depth of experience in Commercial Non-Motor insurance products
  • Experience of developing business strategies and customer propositions
  • A driven and motivated team player with skills in relationship building with a passion for delivering excellent customer service
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel to an intermediate level
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with a commitment to delivering quality results.
  • Experience of the insurance sector, this is highly desirable, although not essential as we believe good customer services skills, gained within retail or office environments are transferable
  • Relevant 3rd level qualification (desirable)
  • CIP, ACII or equivalent insurance qualification (essential)
