Commercial Lines Portfolio Underwriter - 8 Month Fixed Term Contract

Exciting new opportunity for an 8 Month Secondment into Commercial Lines Portfolio team in Dublin.  We are looking to Portfolio to join the team and develop they will be involved supporting the Portfolio Management team in setting the strategic & tactical development and performance of the Commercial Lines portfolio, in line with agreed business strategy and performance targets.

It involves working with Portfolio Managers in developing and implementing strategies, monitoring, and reporting business performance and managing stakeholder relationships.

You will use your leadership and relationship skills to effectively build and enhance the Portfolio products, to enable profitable business growth. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Portfolio Management Team in managing each portfolio’s financial performance (P&L) to deliver results in line with or exceeding the business plan
  • Take part in the annual planning process in the development of portfolio P&L(s), underwriting and pricing plan initiatives.
  • Developing appropriate risk appetite and underwriting criteria
  • Research of segments to develop products and risk management strategies
  • Management and review of policy wordings and endorsement libraries
  • Work the Portfolio Management Team in the development and management of strategies for the portfolio.
  • Review proposed broker / MGA propositions in conjunction with the Sales and Distribution team and if agreed support the implementation by liaising with relevant areas of the business and ensure appropriate on-going monitoring and control
  • Analysing, interpreting and reporting of data to identify actionable portfolio insights
  • Working closely with Pricing Actuaries to developing robust pricing models
  • Actively contributing to the development of segmented and local customer propositions to increase market penetration.
  • Reviewing and sign-off of non-standard / complex case referrals and deliver underwriting decisions, following agreed processes at the designated authority level
  • Planning and managing your own time and performance in line with agreed performance targets, service standards, wider business and change objectives
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with other business areas and functions in order to maximise the effective operation of the Portfolio Management Team
  • Representing RSA externally and promoting RSA as a leading insurer
  • Where required liaising with Reinsurers and/or internal Reinsurance teams to achieve the desired levels of cover on appropriate commercial terms and/or exploit appropriate reinsurer capacity, data and expertise to maximise profitable growth
  • Working with the Pricing and Data teams to ensure continuous assessment of portfolio performance to develop insight driven portfolio strategy and improvement opportunities
  • Reviewing RSA’s Commercial products to ensure that they remain compliant with legal and regulatory frameworks and within RSAII’s risk management framework
  • Co-ordinating and completing Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly Reporting, Analysis & Actions
  • Work with the Portfolio Management Team to ensure the long-term development of the portfolio through product development based on portfolio performance, market intelligence, R & D insight, legal developments and emerging risks

Requirements:

  • CIP, MDI, ACII or equivalent insurance qualification (essential)
  • 5+ years’ experience of working in a broad range of underwriting with a strong technical understanding of the commercial insurance market
  • Depth of experience in Commercial insurance products
  • Experience of developing business strategies and customer propositions
  • A driven and motivated team player with skills in relationship building with a passion for delivering excellent customer service
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel to an intermediate level
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with a commitment to delivering quality results.
  • Experience of the insurance sector, this is highly desirable, although not essential as we believe good customer services skills, gained within retail or office environments are transferable.

  • If this role is defined as a "controlled function" by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that you meet the requirements as set out in the Fitness & Probity standards issued in this Act.
