Commercial Lines Pricing Actuary – Tooling and Systems Lead

This role will involve the development and ongoing maintenance of a suite of commercial lines pricing tools. This will require technical development skills in Excel, VBA and Databases and an in-depth knowledge of Commercial Lines products.

The role will also require significant stakeholder management with the Lead engaging with the Portfolio, Operations, Underwriting, Architecture and Data functions to scope and develop optimal solutions. Medium term, it is expected that this individual will play a key role in the scoping and implementation of Commercial Lines systems.

The role will have broader responsibilities for overall pricing sophistication development. In addition, the role will require the performance and/or coordination of rate reviews. From time to time the role require provision of assistance to other areas of Pricing focus. The role will report directly to the Head of Commercial Lines Pricing.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scoping, Developing and Maintaining a suite of Commercial Lines Pricing tools and solutions. This will include:
    • Working to understand current systems and processes from multiple stakeholder viewpoints
    • Working as a team with other key stakeholders in the business.
    • Communicating the solutions and progress with senior management
    • Developing the tools
  • Performing/Coordinating rate reviews or other analyses that may be required ahead of tool development.
  • Development and mentoring of more junior team members.
  • Be the key Pricing lead on the scoping of a blueprint of the future Commercial Lines system roadmap and lead/coordinate the implementation of this in the future.
  • Assisting or advising on other areas of Commercial Lines Pricing focus potentially including but not limited to:
    • Contributing to the development, maintenance and improvement of existing rating algorithms and platforms
    • Quarterly analysis and report on profitability for nominated classes of business.
    • Analysing information to identify variances, trends, anomalies, etc and explain, highlight and/or refer relevant issues to others as appropriate.

 

Requirements:

  • Mathematical or statistics 3rd level qualification or equivalent
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or equivalent (Good candidates who are Associates of the Society will be considered)
  • Very Advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA
  • Advanced knowledge of SAS or similar applications
  • Ten Years work experience in Insurance. Significant previous experience Commercial Lines Pricing is highly desirable
  • Experience developing and maintaining End User Excel based tools.
